Chelsea Clock Mariner Trophy

Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race 2011

In Conjunction with the Annapolis to Newport Race

Chelsea Clock Mariner Trophy

Constructed from its limited edition Mariner Clock, the Chelsea Clock Company has donated this trophy to the Boston Yacht Club and Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron for the combined promotion of the Annapolis to Newport Race and the Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race (MHOR). They have indicated that they will provide a permanent trophy plus keepers for first, second and third class prizes in four divisions for this year and the following two sets of races. The following description defines the trophy competitions within the race.

There will be a competition for the Chelsea Clock Mariner Trophy (The Trophy) in each of the IRC, PHRF, PHRF Cruising Canvas and Double-handed Divisions for yachts that compete in the same division in both the 2011 Annapolis to Newport Race and the 2011 MHOR. First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded in each division.

In each Division The Trophy will be awarded on the basis of the combined relative rankings in their Division of those boats that sail in both events.

In the Double-Handed Division The Trophy award will be based on boats sailing in the IRC Division of both events.

Competitors for The Trophy will be subject to the governing requirements of each event independently.

For example:

  1. PHRF competitors for The Trophy will sail the Annapolis to Newport using PHRF of The Chesapeake handicaps, and the MHOR using PHRF of New England handicaps.

  2. Similarly the governing requirements of the Annapolis to Newport Notice of Race will apply to The Trophy competitors during the Annapolis to Newport race and the MHOR Notice of Race will apply The Trophy competitors during the MHOR.

  3. PHRF and PHRF Cruising competitors for The Trophy will be scored using Time on Distance for the Annapolis Race, and Time on Time for the MHOR.

  4. IRC and IRC Double-handed competitors for The Trophy will be scored using Time on Time for both races.

Ties among competitors for The Trophy would be broken per the Racing Rules of Sailing.

MHORC will administer the overall scoring process for The Trophy.
